ASTG systems get built in Newton and then go to work somewhere else: an air separation plant, a CO₂ facility, a fab. This role is the person who gets them running there, and who the customer meets. It is hands-on, largely on the road, and about as far from a desk as engineering gets.

What the role involves
Installation and commissioning
- Install and commission equipment at customer sites, to technical guidelines and safety protocols
- Carry out checks, adjustments and validations during startup
- Identify design issues and field discrepancies, and get them back to Engineering
Customer training and support
- Deliver customer training on system operation and maintenance
- Provide post-installation support and issue resolution
Maintenance and troubleshooting
- Carry out preventative maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and system-level issues
- Document issues and resolutions so the next person doesn't solve them twice
Documentation
- Maintain accurate commissioning reports and service documentation, submitted on time
- Support creation of O&M manuals, troubleshooting guides and site procedures
At Technician II and Senior, additionally
- Work independently on installation, commissioning and system startup, including functional testing and calibration
- Act as the on-site point of contact for the customer, and lead training and system handover at Senior level
- Lead commissioning on full and complex systems, and coordinate with Project Management, Engineering and Manufacturing
- Identify recurring field issues and drive the fix upstream; mentor Technicians I and II
What we look for
Technician I
- A technical diploma or equivalent experience
- A basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, and the ability to read basic schematics and drawings
Technician II
- 2–4 years of field or commissioning experience
- A strong understanding of system integration, and the ability to read P&IDs, electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Proven troubleshooting ability
Senior Technician
- 5+ years of commissioning or field experience
- Advanced troubleshooting and system expertise
- Strong communication and leadership, with a track record of leading projects independently
Across all levels
- Comfortable with hand and power tools, electrical and mechanical
- Familiar with electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and safe working practices
- Physically able to work in industrial environments, which can involve lifting heavy equipment and working in confined spaces
- ASU, CO₂ plant or cryogenics experience is welcome but not required
Working conditions
- Predominantly field-based, with considerable time at customer sites.
- Around 50% travel, domestic and international, in trips of up to 20 continuous days.
- Flexible hours as needed to meet project deadlines, including weekends.
- PPE is required on most customer sites, and you'll work in varied environmental conditions.
