Measuring trace (ppb) contaminates in bulk UHP N2 used by NASA – Johnson Space Center to blanket moon rocks.
NASA's Johnson Space Center utilizes ultra-high purity (UHP) nitrogen to preserve moon rocks collected over 50 years of space missions. These historic artifacts are stored in sealed glove boxes to replicate the original lunar environment. Maintaining the purity of UHP N2 is crucial, prompting NASA and Jacobs Engineering to partner with Analytical Science and Technologies Group, Incorporated (ASTG). ASTG was tasked with designing, constructing, delivering, and commissioning a comprehensive monitoring solution tailored to trace level (ppt/ppb) gas analysis needs.
With over two decades of experience, ASTG has established itself as a trusted provider of precise gas monitoring systems across diverse industries such as semiconductors, beverage CO2, medical and pharmaceutical, and aerospace. The system developed for NASA and Jacobs Engineering integrates advanced technologies capable of measuring trace levels of Argon (Ar), Methane (CH4), Water (H2O), Oxygen (O2), and Non-Methane Hydrocarbons. This significant project underscores ASTG's expertise, meticulous attention to detail, and proven track record in delivering high-quality solutions for critical applications.
