What the role involves
Program development and system integration
- Design, develop and implement PLC and HMI programs for standard and semi-custom systems
- Configure and integrate DI/DO/AI/AO devices and communication protocols, including Modbus, ProfiNet, Ethernet/IP and Serial/ASCII
- Develop reusable code blocks and contribute to standardized libraries
Project execution
- Own the controls deliverables for your projects: timelines, functionality and documentation
- Work with Engineering on design validation, Manufacturing on build support, and Field and Commissioning on startup
- Support Factory Acceptance Test and resolve issues in real time
Troubleshooting and improvement
- Diagnose and resolve system-level issues across hardware and software, and perform root cause analysis
- Maintain program documentation, I/O lists, network architecture diagrams and FAT documentation
- Identify gaps in current controls systems and contribute to internal standards
At Senior level, additionally
- Architect complex, custom and multi-system control systems, and define the standards others work to
- Act as technical lead on high-value projects and as escalation point for complex issues
- Mentor junior engineers, run code reviews, and support hiring and onboarding
- Lead work on automation, modularization and productization
What we look for
Controls Engineer II
- 3–6+ years of PLC and controls engineering experience
- Strong PLC programming and HMI development, across multiple industrial communication protocols
- Working knowledge of electrical systems (AC/DC) and control panel design
- Experience with structured programming such as C++, ladder logic or structured text
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, and the ability to manage several projects independently
Senior Controls Engineer
- 7–10+ years of controls engineering experience, at expert level across multiple PLC and HMI platforms
- Deep experience with industrial networks and protocols, data systems and integration, and complex system architecture
- A strong grounding in electrical design and system-level engineering
- Proven leadership and mentoring experience, and the ability to run several high-impact projects at once
Working conditions
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for on-site installations, training and support when needed. Travel is typically less than 15%.
- Availability for remote support and diagnostics outside standard business hours as needed.
